■■■■■ Privacy: Meta fed its AI on almost everything you’ve posted publicly since 2007 / Unless you’re in the EU, there’s no ability to opt out of AI training settings that keep Facebook or Instagram posts public.
Meta has revealed that it has used all publicly shared texts and photos from Facebook and Instagram users since 2007 to train its AI models. Users must intentionally set their posts to private to avoid this. Meta’s global privacy director, Melinda Claybaugh, confirmed this during an inquiry, stating, “Correct,” in response to concerns.
European users can opt out due to privacy laws, but many users worldwide lack this option. Claybaugh noted that users who were minors at the time of posting may not have been aware their data could be used. Critics argue that lack of privacy regulations allows companies like Meta to exploit personal data.
